New Postdoctoral Fellowship Position Available in Sweetpotato Genomics & Bioinformatics

An opening is available for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Buell Lab to utilize genomic and bioinformatic methods to improve our understanding of the genome architecture in cultivated sweetpotato. This activity is part of a newly funded project on genomics-enabled improvement of sweetpotato for sub-Saharan Africa. Ample opportunities for interactions and collaborations with bioinformaticists, genomicists, geneticists, and breeders exist that will provide broad exposure to disciplines relevant in plant breeding and genetics. The Buell lab provides a robust training environment for postdoctoral associates seeking careers in academia and industry and applicants interested in a dynamic, positive research experience are especially encouraged to apply.
MSU provides competitive salary and excellent benefits for postdoctoral associates. Starting salary will be $48,671. The position is a one-year initial appointment with potential extension up to three years. Desired start date is December 2019.
Competitive candidates will be broadly trained in genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, molecular biology, and biology. A research background in the plant sciences with a publication record showing productivity is preferred. Demonstrated leadership in research desired. Demonstrated critical assessment skills essential. Ability to communicate and demonstrate in-depth knowledge on subject matter is required. Strong inter-personal and team work skills required. Proficiency in genomics, and/or bioinformatics required. Knowledge of sweetpotato preferred.
Doctorate – in plant genetics, genomics, bioinformatics, molecular biology, biology or related field.
